In explaining the meaning of John 6, we need to pay close attention to the context surrounding John 6\u00a0as well as\u00a0the relevant context from the entire\u00a0book of John. Here are some verses that are HIGHLY relevant and some questions for you to ponder.<\/span><\/p>\n John 1:9 There was the true Light<\/strong> which, coming into the world, enlightens every man<\/strong>. (What does the true Light do?)<\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n John 1:11\u201312 He came to His own<\/strong>, and those who were His own did not receive Him<\/strong>. 12 But as many as received Him<\/strong>, to them He gave the right<\/strong> to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name<\/strong>,\u00a0(Who were Jesus’ own that did not receive Him? Who did Jesus give the right to become children of God?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 1:29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, \u201cBehold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world<\/strong>!\u00a0(What is the sin of the world?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 1:45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, \u201cWe have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote<\/strong>\u2014Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.\u201d (When did Philip first believe in Jesus?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, \u201cBehold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit<\/strong>!\u201d\u00a0(What does it mean that Nathanael had no deceit in him?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 1:48\u201349 Nathanael said to Him, \u201cHow do You know me<\/strong>?\u201d Jesus answered and said to him, \u201cBefore Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you<\/strong>.\u201d 49 Nathanael answered Him, \u201cRabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0(Why did Nathanael say that Jesus knew him? What was it that Jesus said to Nathanael that cause Nathanael to declare that Jesus is the Son of God and King of Israel?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n John 2:11 This beginning of His signs<\/strong> Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him<\/strong>. (By what event did the disciples believe in Jesus?)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n John 2:18\u201322 The Jews then said to Him, \u201cWhat sign do You show us as your authority<\/strong> for doing these things?\u201d 19 Jesus answered them, \u201cDestroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up<\/strong>.\u201d 20 The Jews then said, \u201cIt took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?\u201d 21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body<\/strong>. 22 So when He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this; and they believed<\/strong> the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken.\u00a0(What is the sign that Jesus gave that would show His authority? When did Jesus’ disciples believe Jesus’ sign of authority?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 3:14\u201315 \u201cAs Moses lifted up the serpent<\/strong> in the wilderness, even so<\/strong> must the Son of Man be lifted up; 15 so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. (What common relationship does Moses’ lifting up the serpent on a pole have with Jesus lifted upon the cross?)\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 3:16\u201317 \u201cFor God\u00a0so loved the world<\/strong>, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 \u201cFor\u00a0God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world<\/strong>, but that the world might be saved through Him.\u00a0(Did God send the Son into the world for judgment?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 3:18 \u201cHe who believes in Him is not judged;<\/strong> he who does not believe has been judged already,<\/strong> because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (What does unbelief have to do with judgment?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 3:19-21 \u201cThis is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 20 \u201cFor everyone who does evil hates the Light<\/strong>, and does not come to the Light<\/strong> for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 \u201cBut he who practices the truth comes to the Light<\/strong>, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God<\/strong>.\u201d (What deeds do men do\u00a0that keeps them from coming to the Light? For those who do come to the Light, what deeds do they do that\u00a0proceeds their coming to\u00a0the Light? Who is the Light?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 3:36 \u201cHe who believes in the Son has eternal life<\/strong>; but\u00a0he who does not obey the Son will not see life<\/strong>, but the wrath of God abides on him.\u201d (What does obeying the Son have to do with life?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, \u201cIf you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, \u2018Give Me a drink,\u2019 you would have asked Him<\/strong>, and He would have given you living water<\/strong>.\u201d (What was to\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>precede the giving of living water from Jesus?)<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n John 4:41\u201342 \u00a0Many more believed because of His word; 42 and they were saying to the woman, \u201cIt is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard<\/strong> for ourselves and know that this One is indeed<\/strong>\u00a0the Savior of the world<\/strong>.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n John 5:21 \u201cFor just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life<\/strong>, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.\u00a0(What does the Father and the Son do for the spiritually dead?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 5:24 \u201cTruly, truly, I say to you, he who hears<\/strong> My word, and believes <\/strong>Him who sent Me, has eternal life<\/strong>, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.\u00a0(What two things things does a person have to do to have eternal life?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 5:25 \u201cTruly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is<\/strong>, when the dead will hear<\/strong> the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live<\/strong>.\u00a0(What can the spiritually dead do?)\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 7:17 \u201cIf anyone is willing to do His will<\/strong>, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God\u00a0(What is required for one to know if Jesus’ teaching is of God?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 7:28 Then Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, \u201cYou both know Me and know where I am from; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know<\/strong>.\u00a0(Who is it that those in the temple did not know?)\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 7:37 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, \u201cIf anyone is thirsty<\/strong>, let him come to Me and drink.”\u00a0(Who were the ones invited to come to Jesus and drink from\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>Him?)\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n John 8:19 So they were saying to Him, \u201cWhere is Your Father?\u201d Jesus answered, \u201cYou know neither Me nor My Father<\/strong>; if you knew Me, you would know My Father also.\u201d\u00a0(Did the crowd know the Father?)<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n John 8:31\u201332 \u00a0So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, \u201cIf you continue in My word<\/strong>, then you are truly disciples of Mine; \u00a032 and you will know the truth<\/strong>, and the truth will make you free.\u201d\u00a0(What is the pre-requisite for knowing the truth?)<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n John 8:34 Jesus answered them, \u201cTruly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin<\/strong> is the slave of sin<\/strong>.\u00a0(Who is the slave of sin according to Jesus?)\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 8:35 \u201cThe slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever.\u00a0(What is the difference between a slave and a son?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 8:38\u201341 \u201cI speak the things which I have seen with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from your father<\/strong>.\u201d 39 They answered and said to Him, \u201cAbraham is our father.\u201d Jesus said to them, \u201cIf you are Abraham\u2019s children, do the deeds of Abraham<\/strong>. 40 \u201cBut as it is, you are seeking to kill Me<\/strong>, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do. 41 \u201cYou are doing the deeds of your father.<\/strong>\u201d They said to Him, \u201cWe were not born of fornication; we have one Father: God.\u201d\u00a0(What were the Jews doing that showed God was not their Father?)\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 8:42 Jesus said to them, \u201cIf God were your Father, you would love Me,<\/strong> for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me.\u00a0(What is a sign that God is one’s Father?)\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 8:43\u201345 \u201cWhy do you not understand what I am saying? It is because <\/span><\/span>you cannot hear My word<\/strong>. 44 \u201c<\/span><\/span>You are of your father the devil<\/strong>, and you want to do the desires of your father. <\/span><\/span>He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth<\/strong> because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature<\/strong>, for he is a liar and the father of lies<\/strong>. 45 \u201cBut because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(Why cannot the Jews hear Jesus’ word? Who are they of? Why can they not stand in\u00a0the truth? Whose nature do they have?)<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n John 8:47 \u201cHe who is of God hears the words of God<\/strong>; for this reason<\/strong> you do not hear them, because you are not of God<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0(Who hears the words of God? Why don’t some hear?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 8:54\u201355 Jesus answered, \u201cIf I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, \u2018He is our God<\/strong>\u2019; 55 and you have not come to know Him<\/strong>, but I know Him; and if I say that I do not know Him, I will be a liar like you, but I do know Him and keep His word.\u00a0(These Jews who said that the Father is their God, what have they not come to know?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 8:59 Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself<\/strong> and went out of the temple.\u00a0(What was Jesus able to do when enemies wanted to see Him to hurt Him?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 9:31 \u201cWe know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will<\/strong>, He hears him.\u00a0(Who does God say He will hear?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 9:34 They answered him, \u201cYou were born entirely in sins, and are you teaching us?\u201d So they put him out. (Who were the ones who claimed that a man was born entirely in sins?”\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 9:39 And Jesus said, \u201cFor judgment I came into this world<\/strong>, so that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0(Why does Jesus heal the blind, but spiritually blind those who falsely claim to have knowledge and who falsely claim to know the truth?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 9:40\u201341 Those of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things and said to Him, \u201cWe are not blind too, are we?\u201d 41 Jesus said to them, \u201cIf you were blind, you would have no sin; but since you say, \u2018We see,\u2019 your sin remains<\/strong>.\u00a0(What makes the sin of these Pharisees remain on<\/strong> them?)<\/span><\/p>\n John 10:1 \u201cTruly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber.\u00a0(Who determines that way thieves and robbers try to enter the fold?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 10:14 \u201cI am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me<\/strong>,\u00a0(Who are the ones who know Jesus?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 10:14\u201315 \u201cI am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me<\/strong>, 15 even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father<\/strong>; and I lay down My life for the sheep.\u00a0(Who are those who know Jesus?) <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 10:16 \u00a0\u201cI have other sheep<\/strong>, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice<\/strong>; and they will become one flock with one shepherd.\u00a0(Who will hear the voice of Jesus?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 10:24\u201326 The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, \u201cHow long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ<\/strong>, tell us plainly.\u201d 25 Jesus answered them, \u201cI told you, and you do not believe;<\/strong> the works<\/strong> that I do in My Father\u2019s name, these testify<\/strong> of Me. 26 \u201cBut you do not believe because you are not of My sheep<\/strong>.\u00a0(Why did the Jews not believe that Jesus is the Christ?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 10:27 \u201cMy sheep hear My voice,<\/strong> and I know them, and they follow Me<\/strong>;\u00a0(What are the two things that the sheep belonging to Jesus do?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n John 10:28 and I<\/span><\/span> give eternal life<\/strong> to them, and they will never perish; and <\/span><\/span>no one will snatch them out of My hand<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(Jesus will continue to give\u00a0life to who?
